Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino is no longer the coach of the Chelsea football club, it was confirmed today by the club. Pochettino has left Stamford Bridge after 11 months in charge of the Blues, a decision made mutually following an internal review by sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Lawrence Stewart.
During the 2023/24 season, Pochettino guided Chelsea to sixth place in the Premier League, as well as reaching the Carabao Cup final and FA Cup semi-finals. Although the club invested around £400 million in reinforcements, the results did not live up to expectations, leading to the decision to part ways.
The club’s sporting directors thanked Pochettino for his efforts and time spent at the club. “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season.” He will be welcome back at Stamford Bridge at any time and we wish him all the best in his future coaching career,” read the club’s official statement.
Pochettino also addressed the public, thanking the ownership group and sporting directors for the opportunity to be part of Chelsea’s history. “The club is now well placed to continue progressing in the Premier League and Europe for years to come,” he added.
Chelsea confirmed that, in addition to Pochettino, members of his coaching staff also left the club: Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Tony Jimenez and Sebastiano Pochettino. Until the appointment of a new manager, the club will not make further comments.
Among the candidates for the new Blues coach are Sebastian Honess from Stuttgart, Michel from Girona, Kieran McKenna from Ipswich and Enzo Maresca from Leicester. Todd Boehly and Clear Lake Capital, the club’s owners, continue their search for a stable solution that will bring continuity and success in the coming seasons.
