The Football Association of the Czech Republic has confirmed that national team player Michal Sadilek will miss the upcoming European Championship in Germany due to injury.
Sadilek was injured yesterday when he fell from his bicycle. “Unfortunately, Sadilek fell while riding a bicycle and injured his calf,” announced the spokesperson of the Football Association of the Czech Republic.
The midfielder was in the Czech Republic’s starting line-up in Friday’s final warm-up game, a convincing 7-1 win over Malta.
Sadilek played 24 games for the national team and scored one goal. He is currently a member of the Dutch Twente, and before that he played for PSV and Slovan Liberec.
The Czech Republic will begin its European Championship campaign on June 18 against Portugal. In Group F, in addition to Portugal, they will face Georgia on June 22 and Turkey on June 26.
Sadilek’s injury is a significant blow for the Czech national team, which will have to adapt and find a replacement for this key player in the midfield ahead of the important matches at EURO 2024.
