Fenerbahçe has begun negotiations with José Mourinho to take on the role of head coach. Mourinho, 61, has been out of work since being dismissed by Roma in January. The club announced the negotiations via the public disclosure platform KAP to inform investors.
Fenerbahçe parted ways with coach Ismail Kartal, who earned 99 points last season but finished three points behind Galatasaray. “Our company has started negotiations with José Mário dos Santos Mourinho Félix for the position of head coach of the Football A team,” Fenerbahçe’s statement read.
If negotiations are successful, Mourinho will aim to secure Fenerbahçe’s first Super Lig title since the 2013-14 season. Mourinho has won eight league titles across four countries and five major European trophies. His last trophy was with Roma in 2022, when he won the Europa Conference League.
Fenerbahçe, Turkish champions a record 28 times, has finished as runners-up in the past three seasons, with Kartal’s team losing only once and drawing six matches last season.
