Gabriel named Player of the Month for January!

Brazilian defender Gabriel has won Arsenal’s Player of the Month award for January after securing 37% of the votes in the fan poll, narrowly beating Declan Rice.

The experienced centre-back played every minute of Arsenal’s nine matches during a demanding January schedule, with his defensive contributions helping the Gunners secure five victories. The team kept clean sheets against Dinamo Zagreb and Wolves, with Gabriel even captaining the side in Martin Ødegaard’s absence.

In addition to his stellar defensive performances, the Brazilian also celebrated his 200th appearance for the club in the match against Girona, while scoring his fourth goal of the season against Manchester United in the FA Cup. He also played a crucial role in the 2-1 victory over Tottenham, as his header deflected off Dominic Solanke to bring Arsenal level.

This marks the fifth time Gabriel has won the Player of the Month award. He first claimed three consecutive awards in the 2020/21 season and was also named Player of the Month in January last year. With this achievement, he joins an elite group of players who have won the award multiple times, with only Bukayo Saka, Mesut Özil, Alexis Sánchez, and Santi Cazorla having won it more often.

🏆 Congratulations, Gabi!
