Man City in crisis: Can Newcastle seize the opportunity? – Match analysis

Manchester City Analysis

Manchester City is going through a turbulent period after two consecutive disappointing results – they barely eliminated Leyton Orient in the FA Cup and then squandered a lead to lose 3-2 at home to Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League playoff. This defeat further highlighted their issues with defensive discipline and psychological stability, as it was the fifth time this season they lost a match after taking the lead.

In the Premier League, Pep Guardiola’s team has not been as dominant as in previous seasons – they have won only 50% of the points from their 24 matches (12 wins, 5 draws, 7 losses), and their last league outing was disastrous, suffering a heavy 5-1 defeat against Arsenal. City currently sits in fifth place, two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and level on points with their next opponent, Newcastle.

Another concern for City is the number of injuries. Manuel Akanji and Jack Grealish are doubtful due to muscle injuries, while Rodri remains sidelined. If Akanji is unable to play, Guardiola might opt for Matheus Nunes or Rico Lewis at right-back. In midfield, Mateo Kovačić could get a chance, while Doku, Foden, Savinho, and Marmoush will compete for the attacking positions. Despite their poor form, City has an impressive record against Newcastle – they have won their last 15 home matches against them.

Newcastle Analysis

Newcastle is in excellent form, especially in away matches, having won four consecutive Premier League games on the road, including impressive victories over Manchester United (2-0), Tottenham (2-1), and Arsenal (2-0). Their last away win was in the FA Cup against Birmingham (3-2), extending their winning streak in all competitions to six matches.

Although Eddie Howe’s team has shown great resilience, they still face injury problems. Joelinton, Botman, and Gordon are doubtful, while Lascelles and Barnes are definitely out. However, the return of Alexander Isak to the attack is a huge boost, especially since 10 of his 17 Premier League goals have come in away matches. Defensively, Schär and Tonali will be crucial in trying to contain City’s attacking threats.

Despite their good form, Newcastle has a terrible record at the Etihad. Their last win away to City was back in 2000, and they have failed to score in their last five visits. However, given the current circumstances and City’s weaknesses, this is one of their best chances to break that negative streak.

Betting Tips

  • Both Teams to Score (BTTS – Yes) – City has shown defensive vulnerabilities, while Newcastle is scoring regularly on the road.
  • Over 2.5 Goals in the Match – An open and attacking game is expected with plenty of chances.
  • Isak to Score – The Swedish striker excels in away matches and often scores against strong teams.
  • City to Win & Both Teams to Score – The home team has tradition on their side, but their defense is shaky.
