Team Analysis: Newcastle United
Newcastle United finally ended their four-match winless streak in all competitions with an impressive 4-0 win over Leicester City. That triumph not only delivered the much-needed three points, but also temporarily silenced critics who had begun to question the performance of manager Eddie Howe. The team dominated throughout the game, achieving an incredible expected number of goals (xG) of 3.8 and shooting as many as 27 times, of which 11 shots went into the frame of the goal.
However, Newcastle remain bottom of the Premier League table following a string of poor results, including a 4-2 defeat at Brentford. The good news for Howe is their performance so far in the EFL Cup, where they have already eliminated two strong teams – Nottingham Forest and Chelsea. Last year’s experience of elimination in the quarterfinals on penalties further motivates the team to take a step further this season.
Newcastle have a few injury problems – Nick Pope is out, while Emil Krafth and Sven Bothman are still on the injury list, with Callum Wilson another key figure missing. Despite those problems, the team has shown that it has depth and quality, especially in midfield with Bruno Guimaraes and attacking options like Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon.
Team analysis: Brentford
Brentford, led by Thomas Frank, continue their incredible progress over the past few seasons. Although they were defeated by Chelsea with a score of 2:1 in the last league match, the “Bees” are currently only five points away from the top 4 in the Premier League, which is their best start to the season so far. Their form in the EFL Cup is also commendable – they got past Colchester United, Leyton Orient and Sheffield Wednesday, although they needed a penalty shoot-out to triumph in the latter.
However, Brentford have a problem with away games – they are yet to win away from home in the league, picking up just one point against Everton. Injuries to key players such as Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey and Josh Dasilva were compounded by unpredictability in the defensive end. However, Brian Mbemo stands out in the attack, who is a key figure in the organization of the game and the finish.
Frank is known for preparing his team well for big games, but the fact is that Brentford need to improve their performance away from home if they are to get a result in a tough away game like this one.
Betting suggestion: GG3+
Newcastle United: Their attacking line, led by Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon, has been in excellent form of late. In the last game against Leicester City they scored four goals while creating a lot of chances with an xG of 3.8. However, their defense is not infallible – they conceded four goals to Brentford prior to that game, which indicates the possibilities for the opposition team.
Brentford: On the other hand, Brentford have a strong attack led by Brian Mbemo, who is able to capitalize on any mistakes made by the opposition. Although they are weak away from home, Brentford almost always manage to score at least one goal, especially against defensively vulnerable teams like Newcastle.
