Team Analysis: Peterborough United
Peterborough United is in a serious scoring crisis, and one of the team’s main problems is stoppages. In the last match against Lincoln City, they conceded as many as three goals from stoppage time – a penalty, a corner and a coordinated action after the out. This problem has continued throughout the season, as no team in League One has conceded more goals from stoppage time than Peterborough (18).
In addition to defensive problems, coach Darren Ferguson’s team also has attacking difficulties. In the last match against Lincoln, their Total Expected Goals (xG) was just 0.66, with more than half of that number coming from the only goal they scored. It clearly shows that they struggle with creating chances and concrete realization.
Their form is extremely poor – they have won just once in their last 10 games in all competitions, with six defeats and three draws. Of particular concern is the fact that they are winless in eight consecutive League One matches (five losses, three draws).
However, the situation at home is somewhat better. In the last five games at home they have only one win, but in the last three matches at their stadium they are undefeated (a win and two draws). This gives them hope before the duel with Wigan, although they will have to significantly improve their game both defensively and offensively.
Team Analysis: Wigan Athletic
Wigan Athletic go into this match with much better form and more confidence. In the last round, they deservedly beat Bristol Rovers, dominating for most of the game. Although they allowed two great chances to the rival in that match (from the same corner around the 60th minute), they played the rest of the match very disciplined and controlled.
Sean Maloney’s side are currently mid-table and just four points clear of 12th-placed Mansfield Town. Maloney believes his team can make a serious breakthrough in the second half of the season, and he has reason to believe that – Wigan have the sixth best defense in the league with just 26 goals conceded.
The team’s attacking performance was problematic during the first half of the season – they scored only 15 goals in the first 18 games. However, the improvement is evident, as they have scored 11 goals in their last eight League One games, a significant improvement on the previous period.
Their form is good – they have won three of their last four games in all competitions, although they have three defeats in their last five matches in the league. What is particularly impressive is their away form – Wigan have won four of their last five away matches, including three wins in their last four games in League One.

Peterborough are in a bad rhythm and are facing big problems defensively, while Wigan go into the match with confidence, especially because of their great results away from home. Everything indicates that the guests will get at least a point, and the chances of their triumph are real.
