Team analysis: Roma
Roma are currently in a serious crisis, which is evident from their position in the Serie A table, where they are just above the relegation zone. With only four league wins so far and as many as seven defeats in the last nine games, it is clear that the Giallorossi are far from the expected level of play. The defeat against Como (0:2) last week further deepened their crisis, but the victory against Sampdoria (4:1) in the Coppa Italia brought at least a short-term respite for the team and coach Claudio Ranieri.
However, the statistics in the league do not inspire confidence – Roma have lost half of their games, which is the worst result in this part of the season since 1973. The defensive uncertainty is obvious, while the offensive part of the game depends on the mood of individuals like Artem Dovbyk and Stefan El Shaarawy. Ranieri will rely on the experience of the likes of Lorenzo Pellegrini and a young force, but the key will be to get an early lead to avoid the added pressure of the Olimpico crowd.
A positive for Roma is their historic performance against Parma at home, where they have not lost since 1997 and have won 16 of their last 20 meetings. This could be crucial for boosting morale and restoring confidence in the team.
Team analysis: Parma
Parma is fighting for survival this season, but the last defeats against Verona (2:3) and the previous series of poor results clearly show that Fabio Pecchia’s team has a lot of problems, especially defensively. Parma is the team that has conceded the most shots in Serie A this season, and only two teams have conceded more goals than them. Although they have some potential in attack, thanks primarily to Simon Sohm who scored twice against Verona, the lack of stability in the back line significantly hampers their fight for points.
Additionally, Parma come to Rome significantly weakened, as a number of key players are injured, including Nahuel Estevez and Yordano Osorio. This will force Pecchi to experiment with the formation, which could lead to additional problems in synchronizing the game, especially against a team like Roma, who have quality in midfield and attack.
While Parma can be dangerous in transition at times, their away form is also a concern, and their run of three consecutive defeats could be extended if they don’t find a way to stabilize their defence.
Betting suggestion: Over 2.5 goals
Based on the current form of both teams, a game with a lot of uncertainty and potential defensive mistakes is expected. Roma have a slight home advantage and better historical performance against Parma.
