The saga surrounding the doping case of Janik Siner is not abating. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed to the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), requesting that the Italian tennis player be suspended for a period of one to two years.
In an official statement, WADA expresses its dissatisfaction with the decision of the independent court of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), which declared Siner innocent, claiming that he was neither guilty nor negligent. WADA believes that this conclusion is incorrect and does not comply with the current rules.
We remind you that the world’s first tennis player tested positive for clostebol, a banned substance, in March 2024. Although the ITIA ruled in Siner’s favor, WADA believes the penalty was too lenient.
- The World Anti-Doping Agency confirms that on September 26, it submitted a complaint to the CAS in the case of the Italian tennis player Yannick Sinner. WADA is seeking a suspension period of one to two years, without seeking disqualification of results, except for those that have already been annulled, the WADA statement said.
The case is now in the hands of CAS, and until a final decision is made, WADA has announced that it will not comment further.
