Strahinja Jokic, the brother of Serbian basketball player Nikola Jokic, was arrested and charged with assault at a game between the Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers. The incident happened during the playoffs, when Strahinja punched a man in the face, and cameras captured the moment of the attack.
Strahinja was charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, and appeared in Denver District Court on Tuesday, the Denver Post reports.
The incident occurred after a verbal conflict between the fans and the Jokić brothers, Strahinja and Nemanja. The conflict escalated when Strahinja physically attacked the fan. A few days after the incident, the victim reported to the police that she suffered cuts and bruises under her left eye, as well as a concussion. He reportedly claimed that he had not provoked Jokić in any way, but was initially hesitant to press charges out of fear for his family’s safety. In May, he changed his mind and decided to sue Strahinja Jokić.
In his defense, Strahinja stated that he was “defending an elderly man, whom he has known for a long time, from the attack of the man he hit.” A new hearing is scheduled for August 21.
It is important to note that this is not the first time Strahinja Jokić has been in trouble with the law in America. Back in 2019, he was accused of assaulting a woman.
