After one season in the NBA, former Euroleague MVP Sasha Vezenkov returns to Olympiakos. Vezenkov officially became a member of Olympiakos and signed a five-year contract worth 18.5 million euros net, making him the second highest paid player in the club’s history, just behind Josh Childress.
Olympiakos offered Vezenkov one of the biggest contracts in the history of European basketball, both in terms of salary and duration. This means that Vezenkov will earn 3.7 million euros per year.
To make this transfer possible, Vezenkov decided to opt out of his NBA contract, leaving behind a guaranteed gross salary of $6.8 million for next season, a remarkable decision considering the amount.
His new contract with Olympiakos represents significant financial compensation and reflects his value, which was set high under the NBA contract he signed last summer. Vezenkov returns to Olympiakos with the aim of competing for the Euroleague title, which was his main motivation for returning.
