Spain demolishes Croatia 3-0 in the opening match of Group B of the European Championship

In the first match of Group B of the European Championship, the Spanish footballers convincingly defeated Croatia 3-0. Goals for “La Furia” were scored by Morata, Ruiz, and Carvajal.

The opening part of the match lacked excitement, but Croatia posed the first serious threat. In the 22nd minute, Stanisic broke through on the right wing and crossed, but Budimir failed to connect well, resulting in Croatia earning only a corner.

In the 29th minute, Spain combined brilliantly, with Ruiz delivering a precise pass through Croatia’s defense. Morata found himself alone against goalkeeper Livaković and confidently scored.

Just four minutes later, Spain doubled their lead. Fabian Ruiz, who assisted in the first goal, also got on the scoresheet. After an excellent breakthrough through Croatia’s defense, he placed the ball into the net with a precise strike.

Croatia had a chance to quickly reduce the deficit, but Simon saved Brozović’s shot. Shortly after, Lovro Majer hit the outside of the net.

Spain scored another goal before the end of the first half. In the second minute of added time, Jamal delivered a great cross, and Carvajal slid in to send the ball into the net.

In the second half, Zlatko Dalić’s team played better. Although Jamal had a chance to score Spain’s fourth goal in the 52nd minute, Croatia responded more offensively. They created an opportunity in the 55th minute when Gvardiol and Kovačić combined, reaching Stanisic whose shot was stopped by Simon. In the follow-up, Budimir attempted a shot, but Kukurelja blocked a sure goal.

Dalić attempted to change the course of the game by substituting Perišić for Budimir. Later, Sučić and Pašalić came on for Modrić and Kovačić, while Petković replaced Kramarić.

In the 78th minute, Croatia had a great chance to reduce the lead. After a duel between Rodri and Petković in the penalty area, referee Michael Oliver pointed to the penalty spot. Petković took responsibility, but Simon saved his penalty. In the ensuing action, Croatia scored a goal, but it was disallowed due to Perišić entering the penalty area early.

The score remained unchanged until the end, and Spain deservedly celebrated victory.
